Browntail Moth Rash & the Maine Boules Club

In Blue Hill, there are a group of people who play a game called Petanque. Petanque, or boules as it’s also called, is basically the French version of bocce, but it’s played on a gravel surface with smaller balls that are metal.

The pétanque club in Blue Hill meets every Sunday at the boat yard by the cemetery. Sometimes, the Maine Boules Club plays until the darkening of the day. Laughter and shouts can be heard from a ways away, as the matches are taken seriously but all in good fun. The atmosphere progresses from the quietest silence to the loudest roar all in the time it takes to roll a ball across the court.

On one Sunday last year, the pétanque playing was marching ahead at full throttle, but there were a few players on the sidelines taking a break while others played. A strong wind came from across the water, whipped through the looming oaks above, and carried with it millions of tiny browntail moth hairs. Some of these hairs, perhaps thousands of them, landed innocently atop the picnic table sitting at the edge of court. Within moments, a new group of pétanque players had taken seat at the table ignorant of the hairs covering the picnic bench.

A day later, these players were covered in hundreds of sores, itching and burning wondering, “What in the world?” They had Browntail Moth Rash, and what was to be done? One person in particular developed side effects that resembled flu- inflammation, fatigue, soreness in the joints- but there was no relief to be had.

We tell this story because these are our friends. No one wants to see people they love suffer needlessly, so we set out to create a product that would provide relief. Today, we’re selling an effective relief for browntail moth rash symptoms, and it’s in stores BEFORE season starts. Check out our page called, “Stockists,” to find a store near you. And don’t get caught like the Maine Boules Club- get your relief now and be prepared.
